MicroYahoo?

According to The Wall Street Journal’s website, Microsoft is bidding more than $44 billion for internet search engine company Yahoo! It seems that Microsoft isn’t happy with being one the largest software company in the world, selling more operating systems than any other company, providing X-Box fans with three amazing Halo games (not to mention the X-Boxes themselves), and giving music junkies an alternative to Apple’s iPod (Zune? Yuck!). Now they want to content with the likes of Google and enter the realm of search engines. But (to use a cliche, when I don’t lke cliches) Microsoft is playing with fire. Sure, Microsoft is one of “the big boys,” but not when it comes to search engines. I really doubt that this sale, if it were to go through (as it’s being highly contended), would let Microsoft break even, let alone make a profit.

I’m a big Google fan. Before it came out in 2004, I mostly used Altavista and occasionally Yahoo! Now I only use Google. Why?Because it’s best search engine out there. It’s not a fluke that Google went from a start up company to a member of the stock market’s “500 club” (with stocks over $500 a share) in about two years, and the two founders from nothing to beign among the richest people in the world.

It’s only a matter of time until this deal either goes through or gets denied, but I for one hope it doesn’t happen. Not only do I believe it will fail, but it would put Microsoft one step closer to it’s goal of world domination.
